Thort I had better try my experiment on the Eiffel Tower, it is the king of all iconic places.

Hey Jesse, just been catching up on your blog. I'm really enjoying this new departure in your work, with the layers. Especially the double use of 'icon' - something there about our backseat/sofa/armchair travelling...
I do have the feeling that the work is very familiar (may be something to do with the spots you picked, but perhaps something more...?) have you checked out any other artists who are working on similar themes? google is a popular topic for many artists critiqe. Fiona Tan pops to mind as an artist who has looked at the photography of iconic landmarks/tourist snaps - I haven't seen her work in the same way as you but she might be a good lead to get you started on that trail...best know your context eh?

Fiona Tan's work 'Vox Populi' is the stuff I'm thinking about: http://www.frithstreetgallery.com/artists/bio/fiona_tan
Also, Idris Khan's "Every..." series: http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/idris_khan.htm
And I know there is a software that takes everybodies tourist snaps and builds a huge picture of the tourist spot - different from yours, but similar thinking in some ways...i'll see if i can find it...

That said, I think your aesthetic is pretty wonderful and I really want to see how you present these works. They feel like finished works in terms of your process, but whether you print them, present them on light boxes/screens, scale etc will play a major part in how they come across to the viewer - this is your next exploration I think.

What happens if you subvert the iconic location - i.e. one we are not so familiar with - for example, little known places in New Zealand, may not be well know to anyone outside the country and the same for other countries...

Good work though - just keep going!
